Hi everyone, welcome back to the Faculty of Horror Podcasting from the Horrid Halls

of Academia, I'm Alex Westwood, Andrea Sue Bassatti, and we have telepotted in today

for a very, certainly anticipated episode from the two of us. Oh yeah, for sure, I

uh, I've been wanting to revisit one of these films, the other one I hadn't seen,

but always wanted to, and uh, ten years later, here we go, finally doing a

Faculty of Horror episode on the fly. Both versions from 1958 and 1986, we're

gonna talk about both, we're gonna talk about them individually, and then we'll

have some, you know, thoughts and notes at the end about both of them, but I

mean, what an incredible story, what an iconic story in so many ways, because we

always spend a bit of time before we start recording going over like our

notes and what we're gonna talk about, and it just struck me as we were talking

about it, Andrea, the breadth of themes and topics that both of these films evoke.

Yes, absolutely. When I was doing my research, I had an intern in the office, and

uh, and so we watched the Cronenberg remake together, and she had a really

interesting observation that this feels like a build-up to like a Marvel movie,

like a Marvel villain or something, and I was like, wow, that is the most

Gen Z read, but like they're not wrong. I feel like if these films, if these

themes were, uh, approach today, they'd be entirely different, but yeah, here

right, these films insofar as the original fly was kind of like a drive-in

classic, a cheapy, it does have a lot, a lot of themes, it touches upon a lot of

spheres, um, and I think, you know, it does touch a lot on mad science, but of
