Charles II, the King of England, Ireland, and Scotland, has been in the background of our story for virtually the entire run of the show.

He is the reason Port Royal Jamaica is called Port Royal. He's the namesake of Port Royal's famous

Fortress, Fort Charles, and Charleston, South Carolina is named after the king.

His shadow looms large over the story of the Buccaneers in the Buccaneers

but I would argue that the consequences of his rule

loom even larger over the story of the Golden Age of Piracy.

So who was Charles II? Today we're going to look at
