Summary

When we read Philemon, we can be confused by the relationship between a “bondservant,” or in some translations, a “slave” and his master. A contextual understanding of this working relationship might change how we think about the individuals mentioned. However, slavery isn’t actually the primary thrust of the passage. In this episode, Emma Dotter is joined by Elizabeth Hoffman, Watermark’s Cultural Engagement Coordinator, to talk Philemon’s big ideas.

0:21.5	about yourself. Well, I am the cultural engagement coordinator here at Watermark, which means

0:31.2	issues. Love it. So great. I love my family. They are a huge part of my life, and I have three little sisters, and my parents are here in Dallas. They all three live in different states. And more importantly, my second sister has a son, and so the first grandkid and the family. And his name is Theo, and we love him.

0:56.4	Today, we are in Philemon, which I'd say might be the most not talked about book of the Bible.

1:04.2	In the New Testament, for sure, probably the most, for sure, probably.

1:10.2	The most overlooked book it's the shortest
