The English people have traditionally had a fraught relationship with the institution of monarchy.

It's legitimately surprising to me that they're one of the few nations that still has a monarchist element in their government.

There has always been this stubbornly independent streak in the English people.

They've always told stories of anti-authoritarian rebels sticking it to the men in power.

Robin Hood is an excellent example of that attitude.
