Summary

The injuries continue but the Meseta is nearly done. Now, with less than 200 miles to go, there is snow on the horizon.
We've had beautiful sunrises, spooky moon settings, and even a Cider Guy.

Steve received a picture tonight of the settling snow several miles ahead, so he and Emma, even though they've reached León, still need to tread carefully in the coming days.

The Meseta has been a dour place to traverse, so it was an excellent diversion to meet and be instructed on how to pour cider by the Cider Guy.

You are listening to the Hiking Radio Network, where we talk the walk with shows by hikers about hikers for everybody. Hi, and thanks for coming back again to Mighty Blue on the Appalachian Trail,

0:44.4

the Camino to San Diego edition, as you can tell from the music.

0:48.9

One of two of you actually have been a bit, not put out, but surprised or unsure about how my calculations are working to get to

0:57.1

San Diego. The idea is that we want to get there now on November the 9th, which is a Friday

1:04.5

to get a flight back on Saturday the 10th. And when we worked out, the way in which I did it was to work out the number of

1:13.6

miles remaining to Santiago and divide it by the number of days, giving us an average to do every

1:19.2

single day. And it turned out our average was 15.45 miles a day, which is certainly doable

1:26.4

because we're doing some good mileage in this last four days, as you're about to hear.

1:30.3

We've certainly kept up our mileage.

1:32.9

And every day you do more than 15.45 miles.

1:37.5

Say you do 16 miles, you get a 0.55 mile credit.

1:41.2

If you do 17 miles, you get a 1.55 mile credit. You have a total running

1:46.2

credit or debit. So if I did 13 miles, I'd have a 2.45 mile debit, and I'll set that against

1:54.5

the current total figure. So when I think I last left you, we were in credit and doing pretty well.

2:03.0

So we've had four days since then.

2:05.8

And we are now in Leon, which is we're nearly 300 miles.

2:10.8

We're going to pass 300 miles tomorrow, in fact, on Monday, which will in fact be my birthday, my 66th birthday.

2:21.7

So let's hear about day number 17.

2:40.6

Day 17, Villalcazar de Seeger, mile 225.8 to Lyddi Goss, mile 243.6, total of 17.8 to Lyddios mile 243.6, a total of 17.8 miles, which means, as I think I've just explained to you, 2.35 miles credit, and that means a total credit of 4.45 miles, which means

2:48.6

at the end of that day, we were 4.45 miles ahead of our schedule.

2:53.1

Now, if you remember, last time, Emma and I were really moving into the more comfortable

2:58.2

area of hiking, and we actually moved on to a town about 6 kilometres ahead of where we actually finished hiking for the day.
