Sydney podcast here, a podcast for horror lovers where we discuss any and all things horror. And it's

me, your girl, Sydney. Happy Friday, happy August, happy four and horror month. I hope you guys

aren't too devastated yet because we have a long way to go. And this might be one of the saddest ones

that we're going to talk about this month because we're talking about the orphanage today.

And the orphanage is very Flanagan-esque. And I know like obviously this movie came out in 2007.

So it came out before Mike Flanagan was directing but i still

use that as an adjective for when something is so downright terrifying but then at the end of it

it flips it and you discover that the thing that was so terrifying is actually not scary at all

and is actually incredibly sad and next thing you know you're in fucking shambles and

questioning why you even watch this and you thought you were going to be horrified but instead

you were absolutely fucking devastated and it just hurts so the orphanage is directed by j a bayona

and this was a co-production between spain and mexico so it, of course, in Spanish. So it is subtitled if you

don't speak Spanish. But it's one of those where like you almost forget that it's even subtitled

because you get like so engrossed in the story. You forget that you're even reading subtitles.

And I honestly, I feel like a lot of movies that we're talking about this month are that way.

Because you just get so invested that you that we're talking about this month are that way because you just get so

understand what these people are saying, but it feels like you do because you just get so into it.

So this movie was actually J.A. Biona's directorial debut, which like way to come out fucking swinging, my guy. And this movie was

originally written by Sergio Sanchez and I think like 1996 or 1997. And nobody had really

wanted anything to do with it. And then J.A. Bayona read the script circle like 2004. And he was super
