Frankenstein. This film was directed by James Whale from a screenplay by Garrett Fort and

Francis Edward Farragow based on the stage play by Peggy Weebling and John L. Baldurston, adapted from

the novel by Mary Shelley. After the incredible success of Dracula in February of 1931, Carl

Limley Jr. and Universal Pictures promptly dove deeper into the world of horror, releasing

Frankenstein 10 months later. Though the film features several departures from the novel on which

it's based, it gave birth to an indelible horror icon in the character of the monster

portrayed by Boris Karloff. Frankenstein would not only prove profitable for Universal,

but it would also go on to inspire several sequels and countless cinematic reimaginings,
