Summary

Arthur Tudor was a Tudor prince who we often think of just in terms of his death. When we do talk about him in life, it's often about whether he consummated his marriage. But there was more to Arthur than that. And after having read a biography of him, I decided to do a complete episode on the boy whose shadow hung over much of the Tudor dynasty, and who helps give us a better understanding of the early Tudor dynasty. Hello and welcome to the Renaissance English History podcast. I'm your host Heather Tesco, and I'm a storyteller who makes history accessible because I believe it's a pathway to understanding who we are, our place in the universe,

looking at the life of Arthur Tudor, a prince whose life was incredibly important because it

0:37.1

brought together and symbolized the union of Lancaster and York.

0:40.3

And yet what we remember most about him when we talk about him is his death and the impact that his death had on the kingdom and on his brother and on the future.

0:51.3

But we also talk a lot about his virginity and whether

0:55.4

he was a virgin and whether he wasn't a virgin. And a lot gets, a lot of time gets spent on that.

1:01.1

So this week, I want to look at Arthur, the person, the boy, the boy who lived until he was

1:07.5

almost 16 years old and talk a little bit about what his birth meant at the time

1:12.0

and what his early life was like. I'm not going to get into his wedding just because a lot

1:17.6

has been written about that. So we're not going to talk about that. But in the book recommendation

1:22.5

at the end, there is a great book on Arthur where you can read all about his life and his wedding and everything like that.

1:29.6

So I'm going to recommend that book at the end.

1:31.6

So I also want to announce the launch of the Tudor Radio Network.

1:35.5

Have you guys heard about this yet?

1:37.0

The Tudor Radio Network is a new online radio station that I'm starting with the help of a number of other Tudor bloggers and podcasters

1:46.1

and people who are experts in this field, also a radio station producer, and I've got a lot of people

1:52.1

helping me on this project. But it's going to be a 24 hour a day internet radio station

1:58.2

filled with Tudor talk shows, and by that I mean some of the podcasts and

2:03.4

also original content that we are producing and also Tudor music because of course Tudor music.

2:10.2

And my radio program is going to be on there, the show that I have in the UK already.

There's about six or seven different podcasters who are confirmed that they're,
