Summary

This week, we'll be talking about the period called the Bakumatsu, or the end of the Bakufu. We'll be tracing a complex, but very interesting narrative describing how the Tokugawa went from masters of all they surveyed to defeat and destruction in a mere 15 years.

Man, that sounds really gloomy. I promise there are fun bits too!

Episode 11, The End of an Era.

0:22.9

Before we get started, three quick programming notes.

0:26.6

First, I want to say thank you to every single person who sent me an email, posted on

0:32.1

Facebook, or dropped me a comment on the podcast website.

0:36.0

I found all of your input extremely helpful in structuring what I'm planning for the future

interspersed with occasional thematic episodes to break things up a little bit,

1:02.4

until I get to probably the 1990s or so.

1:06.3

And then we'll switch to going completely over to thematic episodes.

1:09.9

With that in mind, programming note number two is our schedule for the next couple of weeks.

1:15.7

This week, as well as next, we'll be doing a pair of outline episodes on the end of the

1:20.6

Tohugawa and the start of the Meiji period.

1:24.1

After that, I'll be doing a side episode on a story I find extremely interesting.

1:28.3

I hope you'll like it as well.

1:30.3

Unfortunately, this brings me to my last programming note,

1:34.3

which is that there's going to be something of an interruption in the release schedule of the podcast.
