Hello and welcome to Mindfulness Plus. My name is Thomas McConkey and I am your host. This is a fun episode because we get to eat during this episode.

That's right, we are going to do some mindful eating practice. Now, mindfulness you'll know if you've been listening to the show or have been studying mindfulness is not some special esoteric practice that we do behind closed doors or in a cave oming with incense burning,

although we can do it oming and with incense burning. But my point being is that we do

mindfulness anywhere, everywhere, anytime, all the time. Mindful eating is such a great application of mindfulness practice.

One, because we eat every day, most of us. So it's an opportunity to practice mindfulness every day.

Also, eating is associated with a lot of very primordial drives in the human being.

By primordial, I mean eating food is deeply related to survival.

It's deeply related to pleasure.

And as such, some of our deepest passions even vices are wired into this act of eating so when we infuse eating with mindfulness we elevate we redeem some of those more base qualities of our nature if you

going to get out a piece of food right now and do some mindfulness practice. So I'll give you a moment to do that.

Okay, do you have a piece of food? Good. I'm going to go through just a couple of basic steps for eating mindfully, things that have really helped me in my practice over the years.

And if I had to point to a weak link, if I had to say the time of day where I'm probably the least

mindful, it's probably eating.

So I need this practice as much as anybody.

The one thing that helps me tremendously when I'm doing mindful eating is to sit with a strong posture,

particularly a straight spine, right? Many of you have a mindfulness practice that you do,

and I hope when you do it that you've found a posture that allows you to sit upright.
