Spring in Holland, Michigan is like a scene straight out of a hallmark movie, known across the

country for its spectacular tool of festival and old-fashioned timeless homes and businesses.

Holland seems untouched by the ever-changing world around it.

It's situated on the shores of Lake Michigan, it's as close to a tropical beach as it gets in

the Midwest. It's here where Wendell and Dorothea Wiengarten raised their eight children.

Their youngest Gail was born on April 24, 1965. With such a large family, money was often tight,

but whatever the children lacked materially was made up for in spades by the love and warmth

their parents provided. Gail was vivacious and charming almost from the start, but she always showed

mild dissatisfaction as she lived without new toys and clothes that the other children in the

area always seemed to have. As she grew up watching her parents struggle to put food on the table,

she gained an exceptionally strong desire to work for what she needed and wanted.
