0:27.7	Boy, let's see here. What's new in Charlie's world? Well, first of all, Charlie, why don't you
0:33.4	give people a little insight on today's guest? My guest today is Jim Carney or as I know him
0:39.4	mostly is Mr. Carney who is my high school English teacher and the class that he taught in high school
0:47.6	had probably the biggest, if not one of the biggest impacts on me of any class I've ever taken
0:54.4	and the class was called American Hero and it was all about this book by Joseph Campbell,
1:00.8	a hero with a thousand faces. Now, if you're sitting there saying that sounds boring, Charlie,
1:06.0	that sounds boring. Okay, that's what I was saying on the first day of that class as well. But then
1:12.9	as I got into it and Mr. Carney started teaching about it, it was fascinating to see how this book
1:20.3	here with a thousand faces by Joseph Campbell, which goes through the hero cycle, which is basically just
1:27.3	what we are all going through at every different phase of our life, just finding challenges,
1:33.4	going into some sort of underworld, if you will, but that's just like the challenging thing in
1:39.1	front of us and coming out a changed person and therefore able to change the world. That's really
1:46.1	the undertone of that book and we see it in all sorts of mythology, but also modern works like
1:52.4	Star Wars was based pretty much 100% off Joseph Campbell. I wrote a paper in high school about
1:59.5	the sopranos and how that was based off of it. Really, any book, any narrative, any movie, any poem
2:09.2	in a lot of ways, songs even in the Western world are sort of based on this concept. Anyway,
2:16.8	I thought the class was very transformative and I thought Mr. Carney was very transformative to
2:22.1	me. I wanted to bring him on the podcast and hear his thoughts and have him teach you guys some
