We don't know everything.

We can't be right about everything.

But that's the bad news. The good news is we can't be wrong about everything either. So if you go from the left to the right, you have two different

points of view. But somewhere in the middle is that lovely emblematic that everyone

would love to wear on their sleeve, the truth. And the truth will set you free.

Today is Friday the 13th and and you know what they say. Don't let that black cat walk in front of you

on the street. Don't you walk under that ladder, you walk around it. So if it wasn't Friday the 13th, what would you do? The same thing.

I don't know. I'm not superstitious, but I have to tell you something. 13 is a lucky number for me,

and I laugh when I walk into hotels because they don't even have a 13th floor.

So there's got to be something to both sides of that argument.

Today's show is called Looking Through a Scope.

And it is part one, the narrow vision.

And then the third and most important part is your story to tell.

So in the 1830s, a man named Morgan James was a gunsmith, and he had created the first

documented rifle scope, known as the Chapman James site. There is a picture of this in the article about the Union sharpshooters. They were equipped with

these heavy bench rest rifles. Now, if you noticed when you looked at the picture, you could

see this long metal tube above the bore of the rifle.
