Anyway, we left off last time in the summer of 1807.

Napoleon was finally back in his capital after a long and very eventful period on campaign,

culminating in the Treaty of Tilset.

Although France and Russia were now allied, the war was not over.

Britain fought on, and as we discussed the last episode,

the European geopolitical scene was not as quiet as it might have looked at first glance.

However, compared to the previous two years of near-constant action,

we are now entering a period of relative calm.

In this episode, I'd like to examine the city that greeted Napoleon when he returned from Tilset.
