The light-hearted adventures of amateur detectives Jerry and Pam North begin print before they move to radio, where they captivated listeners.

Neither North was a detective by trade.

Instead, they were amateurs who usually stumbled into their cases by accident or happenstance.

Sometimes through Jerry's job as a book publisher, and other times by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Previously on the podcast, we heard one of the North's adventures starring Joseph Curtain and

Alice Frost, the duo who headlined the show for its first 11 years on radio.

Today, we'll hear from their replacements, a pair who made the move from the small screen to radio microphones.

The success of the North's on radio led CBS to bring the couple to television.

Barbara Britain and Richard Denning were tapped to play Pam and Jerry,

and the North's TV Adventures premiered on CBS on October 3rd, 1952.

At the time, Denning may have been best known as George Cooper on the radio sitcom My Favorite Husband where he co-starred with Lucille Ball.

Denning would later carve out a career in crime and sci-fi B movies, and he starred as Michael

Shane on television from 1960 to 1961. Later in his career, he won the recurring role of the Governor of Hawaii on the long-running

Hawaii 50.

Barbara Britain won a movie contract after a Talent Scout noticed a photo of her from an appearance in the Tournament of Roses Parade.

She starred in several films in the 1940s, including The Virginian and Captain Kidd.

In the 1950s and 1960s she served as

spokesperson for Revlon Cosmetics and she was the original Laura Petri in the

pilot for head of the family. She co-starred with

Carl Reiner, but the roles were recast and the show was relaunched as the
