Pushkin And sort of what I came to learn was that my life has high highs and low lows just like everyone's life.

And that just because this horrific thing was taking my mom away from me piece by piece in a very painful way,

it doesn't mean I couldn't also find hope and I couldn't use my voice to talk about Alzheimer's

and that I couldn't be rallying people together to raise money and it doesn't mean that I can't be creating change

and that from something really horrible, something beautiful has come and it took me a long time to understand that there was room for that.

And now she's making her directorial debut with Like Father,

premering on Netflix this Friday, August 3rd.

It's about an ambitious woman who is left at the altar,

but decides to take her honeymoon anyway

What brings her on the cruise?

I was left at the altar a few days ago and my dad, who I haven't seen since I was five,

showed up to my wedding,announced the two of us got incredibly drunk that night and I must have blacked out because

Hi sweetheart. Oh shit.

Somehow I dragged him onto this cruise that was supposed to be my honeymoon.

That's fucked up.

Lauren and I recorded this conversation, I think what is now a few weeks ago, and she was just at the

tail end of post-production and feeling the high of having completed something

she's worked so hard on for a year.

And so a lot of the conversation is about the challenge of making movies, especially your first movie.
