We all know looking from here, the Middle East is an absolute mess.

It's a tragedy in Syria and elsewhere.

For Israelis, that's very acute.

Syria is right across the fence.

And Jordan is stable, but who knows what might happen,

and just beyond Jordan sits ISIS.

To the south, there's Egypt right now relatively stable because of CC,

but they're jihadists in the side, and I and there were even more.

And of course, the north is Lebanon, where there's Hizballan, other groups.

So Israelis are acutely aware of this mess going around them,

and they feel targeted by it.

They fear what happens if jihadists take over Gaza,

even more extreme than Hamas, but certainly also the West Bank should there be a deal.

All this is not conducive for someone talking about hope,

and reason, and change, and future, and it's much more conducive to someone saying,

I'm going to be tough.
