Hello, happy New Year.

Hope you've enjoyed a little bit of R&R around the holidays.

We and the King family have largely laid low, with the exception of my annual crazy New Year's ride.

Two years ago, I rode the entire length of the state of Vermont. Last year was my first

and only Everest. And this year, I decided to do a lap of Lake Champlain, which is the western

border of northern Vermont. It's 200 miles door to door from my house. The pathetic state of

affairs in terms of snow here in Vermont this winter makes for good, dry,

temperature, agreeable bike riding. So I'll get a video up on YouTube soon if I haven't done so already.

And speaking of YouTube sensations, folks, look up Alex Dousset if you don't follow him already.

So this recent world tour retiree, as of about a week ago, has, I believe, 15 pro victories

to his name, two of those in Grand Tours.

He's a six-time British National Professional Champion.

He's a pair of medals in the Commonwealth Games, gold and silver.

He has a blistering fast time that earned him the

hour record just a few years ago, and he's done a terrific job sharing his journey through

social media, in particular his YouTube channel. So as I wrap up my six-month regiment on

blood thinners from my pulmonary embolism, I was particularly interested

in talking to Alex about his life. See, I knew it sort of peripherally while racing, but it wasn't

until I had my PE last summer that I was reminded by a handful of friends, I should talk to Alex

because he has hemophilia.

Feel free to nitpick this next part apart. But as we discussed today, he's pretty much the first professional athlete to have hemophilia. That's, of course, thanks to his athletic prowess,

but also thanks to the way his parents raised him in the time in which he has lived with modern
