| 0:00.0 | Hey guys, if you're not a member of the street cop community, you are missing out. |
| 0:02.5 | It is where you can find all the e-books and all the resources that I put out to help you do your job better. Check it out at streetcop community.com or streetcop.com. Just look for the link there and we'll see you inside the community. Everybody gets trained on how to handcuff, like the proper way. Nobody talks about the importance of it. I have seen so many videos where young cops get their cuffs out, loud click, a lot of rattling around, and then they fumble around with the first blade and then they're talking and trying to do a couple things to get the other blade on. Meanwhile, the bad guy is thinking about all the different ways that he wants to fight or escape. How about the big idea is this? Train to cuff and cuff quickly. That's a big idea. The key is this, the quicker you can shrink that window of opportunity for a bad guy to fight or flee or resist. That's just better. And so stop goofing around with your handcuffs. When it's time to put them on, to you that means this guy's getting ready to get locked up. To that bad guy, it means this is my last window of opportunity |
| 0:57.3 | to fight or flee. So train with your handcuffs to be fast with your handcuffs. |
| 1:01.8 | One of the other one step. |
| 1:05.8 | Woo! |
| 1:06.7 | You training to be a street cop? You guys, welcome this episode of the Street Cop Training podcast. Your host, founder and CEO of Street Cup Training. And to be honest with you, this is more of an impromptu podcast episode because Captain Corey Flowers, who's here with us, Lieutenant L.A. Alfonso was here with us. She was coming over. Corey has something he wants to discuss today on the podcast. |
| 2:01.1 | And so I just put us all together because we always have some magic. Thank you both for being here. And maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe Ellie can say a few words to lead us into what we're going to do and then hand it over to Captain Epton Flowers. I am excited to be here, excited to be back with you, Den. I think now more than ever, we need to have these conversations and these podcasts for our brethren at the state, local and federal level, right? World is a wild, crazy place. So I'm excited to see what Corey has to say. Cory, I'm digging that look, man, very sons of anarchy. Hey, I'll take it. That's cool, man. When you have to wear polyester for 25 years and then you don't have to, you take full advantage. So the grooming goes to the, to the wayside. That's okay. Yeah. What are we talking about today? Are we going to talk about like how to grow mushrooms in a basement? Because that's what you look like. No, a guy that explained that. |
| 2:19.0 | But I can tell you how to do that. |
| 2:20.1 | Yeah, I can tell you how to do that. |
| 2:36.3 | And it's not, man, it's not for the, it's not a very glamorous. I tell you, you don't want to do that. You wouldn't be good at that. You're far too sanitized. I'll tell you that. so no hey this is this is a therapeutic podcast because i am seeing, this is what I'm seeing. You guys are seeing the same thing. |
| 2:38.0 | Body cam images, videos that are coming out constantly, it seems like, that are self-induced disasters when young folks that just, and it's not their fault, they just don't have the tools that have been passed on to them by veterans. I mean, minor things that are big things that they don't teach you in the police academy. And so me and a couple guys, a couple older dudes like me, we're talking with some younger guys in the academy and they were like, what, you know, what should we know? What's some basic stuff that we need to know that'll keep us safe and make us sharp? |
| 3:08.0 | And so we started just putting a list together. And I wrote down 10 things, man, that we passed along to these folks. And they're like, I've never heard that. That's a great idea. And it's super simple. And it'll keep you from getting on, you know, YouTube or TikTok like this afternoon in a bad way. And so I said, yo, let's pass along a couple, you know, a couple pointers. |
| 3:25.8 | And you guys tell me what you think about these as we go through. |
| 3:28.1 | What do you think? this afternoon in a bad way. And so I said, yo, let's pass along a couple, you know, |
| 3:24.7 | couple pointers. And you guys tell me what you think about these as we go through. What do you |
| 3:28.2 | think? Yeah, go for it. Cool. Look, the first one is this. Nobody, everybody gets trained on |
| 3:35.7 | how to handcuff, like the proper way, right? Single blade forward, you know, in your hand, you know, everybody knows |
| 3:41.8 | the right way, but beyond the academy, nobody talks about the importance of it. I have seen so many |
| 3:47.3 | videos where young cops get their cuffs out, you know, loud click, a lot of rattling around, |
| 3:54.3 | and then they fumble around with the first blade and then they're talking and |
| 3:57.9 | trying to do a couple things to get the other blade on meanwhile the bad guy is thinking about all |
| 4:03.1 | the different you know ways that he wants to fight or escape how about the big idea is this train |
