Normally we start things off on the Need to Know Podcasts a little bit differently than we are today.

Times are hard, times are trying.

There's a lot going on in the world.

We are a black podcast.

We have two black men on the podcast and a black woman.

And then the people that we work with are also black.

So we're all feeling this in our own ways.

And I didn't really know how to come into this episode.

There's a lot weighing on my mind. There's a lot weighing on my heart.

One of the things that I keep seeing as a recurring theme throughout the protests and throughout the Black Lives Matter movement, George Floyd, rest in peace.

One of the things that I keep seeing is one of the tone deaf messages of people not understanding why black people live in fear.

So I do want to just start off with my thought on it.

Alex and Steph, I promise I'm going to get out the way. But I want to mention something that I learned

in college. There's a natural instinct that all humans, all animals, any living organism, for the

most part, mammals especially, or just animals have.

And it's called fight a flight, right?

Fight a flight.

If anybody's not familiar with fight a flight, it's the mold or the mindset or the adrenaline that comes to someone person thing when they either have to run for its life or they have to

defend themselves and fight for its life in you know nature and in the world so fight a flight

right and I thought about it and it stuck with me since 2013 whenever I was in college

and black people live in a constant state, black men especially,
