0:54.4 | But should we really be shaming Descartes? Should that be our attitude? Seriously, looking back, can we really be so disappointed with these thinkers and the conclusions that they arrived at? |

1:08.8 | What would that be like? What would it feel like to be a human being back then? |
1:13.2 | When you're in a thinkin' mood and you go on a walk and you look around yourself pondering all things existence? |
1:19.3 | Think of how absolutely chaotic and random the natural world might seem like to you, not knowing what we know now. |
1:26.0 | On the other hand, think of how well-ordered and obviously governed the natural world might seem like to you. |
1:32.2 | You know, it's so easy to conflate our experience of the world in 2017 with theirs and 400 BC. |
1:37.7 | It's so easy when you try to imagine yourself as somebody actually living back in antiquity to just assume that |
1:42.9 | what it would be like for me to live in ancient Greece is basically the same as my experience of the world right now. |
1:48.1 | I'd just be an olive farmer, you know? Or a working at one of them gyro stands. |
1:54.0 | But seriously, put yourself in the shoes of Plato and Aristotle for a second. |
1:57.4 | They don't have encyclopedia Britannica, they don't have Google when they're confused about something. |
