Today it is my honor to nominate one of our nation's most brilliant and gifted legal minds to the Supreme Court.

She is a woman of unparalleled achievement, towering intellect, sterling credentials, and unyielding

loyalty to the Constitution, Judge Amy Kney Barrett.

I think that Donald Trump has made a political error choosing

Judge Barrett is extraordinarily well qualified.

She is extremely smart, educated with a lot of experience.

I am deeply honored by the confidence that you have placed in me.

Should I be confirmed, I will be mindful of who came before me.

To put someone on the court whose views are the exact opposite of Ruth Bader Ginsburg is just appalling.

A judge must apply the law as written.

Judges are not policy makers and they must be resolute and setting aside any policy views they might hold.

What I am concerned about is anyone that President Trump would have appointed

was there to undo the Affordable Care Act.

That is why he was in such a hurry,

so he could have someone in place for the oral arguments

which began November 10th.

This evening I also want to acknowledge you, my fellow Americans. The president has nominated me to serve
