Good morning and welcome to the Increase Your Impact Podcast. I'm Justin Sua. Episode 1,996. I am a fan of self-reflection questions. I've always loved them. And the reason I like self-reflection questions is because it causes you to look within and to find answers to your own questions. I recently heard of a reflection

0:23.8

question that someone asked themselves that just really piqued my ears perked up and it piqued my

0:31.1

interest and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. This person asks himself

0:36.0

after a performance, what things out of my control

0:40.6

contributed to my failure? And after a win, he asks what things outside of my control contributed

0:48.7

to my success. I think it's really easy to point the finger and to blame umpires, blame the economy,

0:58.9

blame people for our failures. But what we don't take into consideration a lot of times is

1:06.2

the good bounces, the favorable bounces that happen outside of our control that contributed to

1:12.9

the winning. Daniel Connman, an economist who passed away recently, said this. Success in equation,

1:23.6

success equals some talent plus luck. Great success equals some talent plus a lot of luck. You'll hear some people who get offended when they say, when you say you got lucky or you're lucky. Well, that may be the case. I can see why some people would be offended because that person might be neglecting the hours

1:45.2

and hours and years and even not decades of hard work they put into it. However, a lot of people

1:51.3

who are very successful, I've heard them say, I had a lot of luck. There's a lot of things outside

1:59.9

of my control that contributed to success.

2:02.1

If I wasn't born to this family or grew up in this place or met this person or had this

2:07.0

type of technology that came out or been in the right place at the right time or have

2:12.4

had this thing happen, I wouldn't be as successful as I am today.

2:17.1

And so this episode is a question for you,

2:20.2

something to consider. What are the favorable balances that you've had in your life that has led to

2:26.3

success? Things that you had no control over, they just happened and you capitalized on it. Or you positioned yourself to get lucky or positioned

2:38.3

yourself to be in a spot where the ball was likely to bounce, but you happen to be in the right

2:47.7

place at the right time. The question of the day is, what are things that are outside of your control?

2:54.5

What things outside of your control contributed
