I heard a conversation between two professional athletes and they were talking about failure.

Now failure is part of the journey and how you respond to failure can be a competitive advantage.

And so this conversation went like this.

So, teammate one goes, how do you bounce back so quickly from failure?

Seems like it doesn't bother you.

So he's speaking to a veteran player who's a lot older.

And that veteran player says, it definitely bothers me,

but I don't let it get to me like I, like it did earlier in my career. And then the younger one

says how, and then he goes on to say, I asked myself two questions. Now, these two questions are

something that he learned a long time ago from somebody. And the two questions are this.

Number one, how did I contribute to this failure?

And he goes on to say, that question holds me accountable.

And the second question he asked himself is, what did I have no control over?

And he says, I don't need to be, and this question helps me realize that I don't need to beat up on myself over

things I couldn't do anything about responding effectively to failure like this player is a combination

of owning your mistakes and accounting for the things that were outside of your control

so the next time something doesn't go your way,

consider asking yourself these two questions.

How did I contribute to this failure?

And what did I have no control over?
