A sport that I have worked many years with is baseball.

And baseball is very unique in that it's a game of failure.

It literally is a game of failure, particularly amongst the position players.

If a position player succeeds three out of ten times over the course of their career,

they are one of the best to ever do it.

That's 70% fail rate.

30% success rate. You are one of the best to do it.

And for many people, that's hard to grasp. Think about your own job.

Think about if you got three out of ten and whatever you did and you're considered great.

Chances are that is not the case in your industry.

Three out of ten is terrible.

But that just goes to show how difficult it is to hit a baseball, particularly in the major leagues,

when you have the quality and the caliber of pitcher that they have in major leagues.

Now the reason I share this is because a lot of times major league baseball players,

professional baseball players at any level, or even amateur baseball players,

are learning how to navigate and manage failure.

A question you'll often hear me ask is, what is your relationship like with failure?

How do you define it? How do you define success?

And however a player defines success and failure,

and the relationship with failure will dictate how they respond to failure,

and how they respond to failure, and how they carry failure,
