Good morning and welcome to the Increasing Your Impact podcast. I'm Justin Sua. Episode 1726. Today's reminder is to

align your level of focus to that task you're actually accomplishing. Here's what I mean.

There are things that you do throughout your day that require a high level of focus. There are things that require medium levels of focus and there are things that you do throughout your day that require a high level of focus.

There are things that require medium levels of focus and there are things that require low

levels of focus. Now, it's important that in high focus tasks, you have a high level of focus.

You don't want to go into a high focus task with a low

level of focus. You're going to miss important cues. You're going to drop the ball in certain

circumstances and the game or the presentation or the performance is going to speed up on you.

Now, corollary to that is you don't want to have a high level of focus or thinking or mental

brain power going on in a low focus situation because it takes energy to focus. It takes time to focus. It's exhausting to focus at a

high level, especially when you don't have to, focusing on things you can't control,

focusing on things that are in the past or in the future, when you're sitting there reading a book or when you're sitting

there doing nothing and so it's important to really identify and ask yourself where do I need to

really lock in and then identify what does that look like lock in on what for how long and then

when there's a break in the in And then when there's a break in the game, when there's a

break in the action, then you take your focus down. Where else can you focus? It's important

to put your focus where you want, when you want for the amount of time that is needed.

Because as we always talk about, focus isn't just something you have.

And one way to optimize performance in whatever you do is to practice having the right amount of focus for the task at hand.
