So back in episode 72, Continental General Philip Skyler and his second in command, General

Unlike most British generals, Guy Carlton did not come from an aristocratic family. He was born to a respectable but common family in Northern Ireland in 1724.

His father died when he was 14 and his mother married a minister.

As a Protestant though, at least he was eligible to join the army and could pursue a career as a commissioned officer.
