Everybody, what is going on? You know what time it is. You are listening to join the Journey podcast with the substitute teacher, Margaret Walker. It's Good Friday, folks. The Friday before Easter commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, where hypocrisy, brokenness, conflict, all took place on Good Friday.

And you'll see how each of those come out today in the text of Galatian 2.

You join the journey yet again, and yet again you are about to hear about Jesus

and the lives we are called to live by faith in the Son of God.

There's one gospel. We'll see that in this chapter, and that one gospel is to be defended,

shared, and proclaimed in the different circles, groups, and cultures we find ourselves in

as the church today. Paul shared it with the Gentiles, and Peter, him to the Jews.

As Paul's authority was recognized by the leaders in Jerusalem, the only request by them was that

the poor be remembered. He had already voiced he was eager to do so. Just read the chapter. The

saints in Jerusalem were poor. We can look back at

Romans 1526 because that's what it said. A generous contribution was needed to mitigate the human

suffering that was going on and promoted unity among Gentile and Jewish Christians.

Now I know we all see the 20th verse in Galatians 2, and we put it on

our mirrors, we memorize it, and we call it our life verse. But before that comes verse 11.

Look at it. Now, as you look at that, we don't know the time of Peter's trip to Antioch,

but we do know Peter's conduct in Antioch produced some contention between two leaders.

Now, Peter was influential, but some hypocritical tendencies started to show.

Now, the background is Jews didn't eat with Gentiles for religious and racial reasons.

Gentiles, their food, was deemed all unclean to the Jews.

If a Jew even ate with a Gentile, they're deemed unclean before the Lord.

Ah, but the Lord showed our man Peter a vision back in Acts 10 and commanded Peter to eat.
