For the next few weeks, we're going to be covering topics that occur during one particular time in England.

Some of these events will occur in Europe in England, Scotland, Ireland, moving on to Spain and France, Rome, even moving further east as England... and In North America, as England searches for the Northwest Passage, in some of the first English

colonies in what would one day become the United States, and more importantly, down a little

further south in the Caribbean Caribbean as England begins a campaign that will move

against the monopoly of the Spanish Empire in the New World.

This campaign is done primarily through the use of what were known as gentlemen adventurers

committing little more than acts of some of the most notorious piracy that the

Caribbean would ever see. And these events will eventually take us all the way around the globe in search of Spanish treasure.

So this week we're going to be introducing the central character in this period of time.

We'll be introducing Good Queen Bess, the Virgin Queen, the Pirate Queen, Queen,

Queen, Queen Elizabeth the First of England. This is episode number five,

Gloriana.
