Summary

Dr. Joan Bright catches up with an old friend.

On November 1st, 2015, we published the first episode of The Bright Sessions. None of us could have imagined what came next.

Thank you for listening to The Bright Sessions over the last 10 years. While this is the final cherry on top of a wonderful decade, we have so many more stories to share with you. Please visit atypicalartists.co to learn about all our different shows. You can also find The Bright Sessions compendium by clicking the merch tab on that website.

And if you'd like to help bring Phantom Pulse to life, head to phantompulse.com. Sign up to be notified when we launch or consider giving to our campaign, depending on when you hear this!

The Bright Sessions was created by Lauren Shippen, who also voices Sam. Julia Morizawa is Dr. Bright. Mischa Stanton is our sound designer, and our music is by Evan Cunningham. The beautiful epilogue art is by Marcus Emdanat. See more of his work at thefigureinthecorner.tumblr.com.

Hello, my strange and unusual listeners, both old and new.

0:26.0

I don't know that I ever expected to be recording this, but there's so much about the last 10 years that I haven't expected.

0:34.7

When I started the Bright Sessions back in 2015, I was a lonely, anxious 20-something who just wanted to make something that could express a little bit of that.

0:39.8

Much to my shock, not only did these amazing actors I knew agree to be in it, but then you listened. A lot of you listened. And so many of you were anxious and

0:46.4

lonely too, or sad or scared, or happy or lost, or every emotion a human can have. And you found

0:53.9

yourselves in what we were making.

0:56.9

I love this show that we made.

0:59.3

And I always knew that when I put down the pen,

1:01.8

I wouldn't pick it up again unless I really wanted to.

1:04.9

I cared too much about what you've made of this story

1:07.8

since you picked it up to add to it willy-nilly.

1:10.5

But then, as I was putting together the Bright Sessions Compendium for a 10th anniversary,

1:14.4

this 130-page book that you can get your very own copy of,

1:18.0

I struggled to write the intro.

1:20.4

How do I sum up a decade of feelings about this story and the life it's lived beyond my computer?

1:27.5

Before I knew it, I was writing this epilog down.

1:30.8

I normally wouldn't give this much of a preamble before an episode,

1:34.0

but I do want to be clear.

1:35.5

This isn't the show coming back or the start of something new.

1:39.6

It's a reflection, a little cherry on top of the seven seasons we loved making, and most of all, it's a love letter to you.

1:49.5

I hope you enjoy it.

1:50.7

I hope it makes you feel warm and fuzzy to hear Julia as Dr. Bright again in the same way that it did for me.
