Professor Sachs, let's begin straight with what is in some ways, I think, the single most important thing. President Trump talks about this being in some ways a war for necessity. He speaks about this being a war that must be

fought. I find this extraordinarily difficult to understand. We had negotiations ongoing.

The negotiations seem to be succeeding. The Amani mediators were happy. the Iranians were making concessions.

What is the moral legal foundation for this war?

Is the one? And if there is no such foundation, what conclusion can we draw?
