October is National Bullying Prevention Month. So Katie Zeppieri is here to tell us how she is making a difference. Katie has an amazing story and used it to start the biggest girl talk empowerment day across Canada. The bullying rate has drastically increased over the last 20 years and we set the examples to our children to stop it. Katie gives us tips if your kid is getting bullied or if they are the one bullying.

this is a podcast that believes in empowering women through storytelling and education. And I am so glad that you are here listening because I have an exciting episode for you guys today.

Very informational and something that really needs to be talked about October is Boeing prevention month.

And if you look at the statistics, it is crazy. The increase that is happening and it is so sad to see you see more things in the media and in the news.

And I just wanted to share a few of those statistics with you before we jump into this about 160,000 kids per day skip school for fear of being bullied.

When bystanders intervene, bullying stops within 10 seconds, 57% of the time. So there is something that you can definitely do to help prevent bullying.

And if you see it happening, do step in. There's a few things that a few other statistics that I wanted to share with you that it's really sad, but it's so important to talk about.

And what's happening is suicide among youth has it used to be relatively rare. And now it has increased so much in the last 10 years. So from 2007 to 2017, the number of suicide among people ages 10 to 24 increased 56% from 6.8 deaths per 100,000 people to 10.6.

And it's become the second most common cause of death among teenagers and young adults is suicide. And a lot of that is linked to bullying. And there are so many, again, so many things that can be monitored or stopped or ways to intervene.

And so I have to hear these stories now about kids video taping it. And it's like, man, that they are a part of the problem too. And so I have an amazing guest today who's going to talk to us about the work that she has been doing with young women.

And she knows in that age group and in middle schools and high schools and doing a girl talk empowerment day and how just your words and being kind goes so far. And it is so important, especially with statistics like this.

And there's just things these days that are amplifying it such as social media. So kids don't just leave their bullying at school. They're going home and being cyber bullied too. And so it's so important to monitor that I am not against being in your kids business at all because you hear these stories where the parents don't know what was going on.

Or you hear the stories where they made the issue aware to people and nothing was done about it. And we can't allow that to continue to happen. There are some amazing articles out there that I will share with you guys on my website. And it also talks about what to do if your kid is a bully, what to do.

If like signs to look for if your kid is a bully, signs look for if your kid is being bullied, just tons of different information on their group chats and things like that of how to deal with all these different issues.

But I'm so excited for our guest. I have Katie's up here coming on and she is she's so amazing. She's such an amazing speaker and the work that she is doing is awesome. She started the largest girl talk empowerment movement throughout Canada.

And it's starting to spread to other countries. And she just has such an important message to share with us. And so I'm going to bring her on.

And I've actually Katie, I've re told that story so many times about that woman in a poll that you wrote the article on.
