Summary

On November 13, 2021 the World Waterfowl Calling Championships in Easton, Maryland were turned into the Mike Benjamin show. Mike opened up the night with a win in the 2-man live goose before capturing another win in the 2-man live duck. Then came the solo stuff- a win in the live goose, a win in the live duck, and a 2nd place finish in the open goose. In this episode, we caught up with Mike to talk about his historic night on stage and what this means for his future in contest calling. You'll also hear about the redemption he wants at SquadFest next summer as well as how he plans to use a 2nd place finish in the contest he wanted the most to motivate him moving forward. Mike is one of the most stand up individuals in the waterfowl industry and we couldn't be happier for him and his success!

How's it going, guys? Asher, good to talk to you. Absolutely, man. Thanks for joining me. Yeah, I'm doing, I'm doing great, dude. It's been a banner waterfowl season for us to this point so far, man. It just feels like everywhere we've gone, we've hit it just right. So I have no complaints, man. Where are you joining me from today? Rochester, Minnesota, where it is a sunny, but about 25 degree morning. So it's kind of

1:04.6

pretty average for our time of year. We all kind of wish it would be a little bit colder. Haven't

1:08.8

really got the snow on the ground yet, but it sounds like there might be a chance for

1:13.2

some of that here in the near future.

1:14.9

So we'll see.

1:15.7

We talked about it briefly before we got started, but how has the hunting been in Minnesota

1:22.1

this season so far?

1:24.5

Yeah.

1:24.9

So I think it was, you know, actually probably when i was about in maryland like a

1:29.6

week and a half two weeks ago uh we kind of got our first cold snap we had some rain followed by

1:34.8

you know some pretty cold temps so like the northern half of the state really uh really started to see

1:40.0

a good push of birds like coming out of Manitoba, Winnipeg area.

1:48.2

And where I met in southeast Minnesota and Rochester, it's been fairly mild.

1:52.7

I haven't really had a lot of weather to push some new birds in.

1:58.1

But, you know, when you drive around, you start to see a few more kind of loading up on some of the reservoirs and on the river and lakes and stuff here in town.
