| 0:00.0 | Well, hey, everyone, it's Nate. Today's Wednesday, August 9th, 2023, and I've got some tough news, which many of you may have already heard. |
| 0:09.7 | Sixto Rodriguez, best known from the movie Searching for Sugarman, passed away at age 81. |
| 0:16.4 | Now, the good news is that Mr. Rodriguez left us some marvelous music that is as wonderful and |
| 0:22.5 | touching today as it was when he recorded it in the 1970s. |
| 0:27.0 | Now, if you're unfamiliar with the work of Rodriguez, pull up a copy of the album Cold Fact, |
| 0:32.5 | and ideally take some time to watch the movie searching for Sugarman for his incredible story. |
| 0:38.5 | Now, in December of 2018, I was absolutely honored to be able to spend some time with Mr. Rodriguez |
| 0:45.1 | and conduct the interview that I'm going to be playing shortly. |
| 0:48.7 | Now, I had spent months setting up this interview, and after several false starts and reschedules, we finally caught up with |
| 0:55.9 | each other while he was on tour dialing in from a hotel in Washington, D.C. And he and I spent |
| 1:01.8 | over 40 minutes discussing music, records, recordings, and he shares his many views of the world. |
| 1:09.0 | I originally published this interview on my Patreon page, and it was only for my Patreon |
| 1:14.1 | supporters as a Christmas gift for that year. |
| 1:17.1 | But today, in honor of the man, I'm sharing the full interview with everyone. |
| 1:22.4 | We'll be totally commercial free. |
| 1:24.1 | I'm uploading this interview in high resolution, so each of you can hopefully |
| 1:28.4 | hear every word he says as clearly as possible. |
| 1:32.3 | Now, a quick note before we start, Sixto was in his late 70s when the interview was conducted, |
| 1:38.3 | and he jumps around topics a little bit, but that's okay, it's perfectly understandable, and |
| 1:43.3 | he's very keen to share what was on his mind. |
| 1:46.4 | Also of note, the interview does come to a rather abrupt end when he decided it was time to |
| 1:52.0 | hand the phone back to his manager and do something else. Again, I'm only sharing this for context |
