Summary

This is the second of a four part mini series about being biracial. On this episode Taylor has Sydney Hightower, Amber James, and Jami Rose on from the Bachelor to talk about their biracial experiences. They have a chance to discuss their hair journeys from literally ironing out their hair to thinking about what it means to take up physical space with your hair. The group dives into how to accept your full biracial self and some phrases monoracial folks use that are hurtful to biracial people.

1:38.9

So this is kind of new for me, but I love it. And I'm here for it. Yeah, we're all.

1:46.9

We're all figured it out. And as part of the conversation with mixed in America.

1:52.9

Jasmine and Megan, they both just kind of shared about how we are all figuring it out. Like the mixed race story is, you know, one that there's not a lot of research on one that not a lot of people talk about one that we don't really have a strong community.

2:04.9

And so some of the things we talk about today might feel a little hard and might be a little uncomfortable, but that's totally okay. It's part of the process. And this is a safe space for us to try to figure these things out and process them together. So thank you for sharing Amber.

2:18.9

It's complex. It's complex. So yeah. Thank you, Amber.

My parents are my dad is light. He's French Canadian. He has a little bit of matey in him. So whenever people see my parents, they're like, no, they're both mixed because my dad can get pretty tan. And I'm like, pretty sure I know what my parents are.
