Summary

EP109. Defense mechanisms help protect us from anxiety/stressor/uncomfortable feelings. They are typically unconscious (i.e., we don't know why we're doing it in the moment). We all use defense mechanisms to some extent. Some are high-functioning (i.e., humour) and some are low-functioning (i.e., being passive aggressive). In this episode Renee breaks down the most commonly used defense mechanisms and gives examples of when they would be used. You will most definitely start noticing when you or others use defense mechanisms after this episode!

Is drinking raw milk safe like RFK Jr. suggests? Can you reduce a glucose spike if you eat your food in, quote, unquote, the right order? I'm registered dietitian Abby Sharp. I host a nutrition myth-busting podcast called Bite Back with Abby Sharp. And those are just some of the questions I tackle with qualified experts on my show.

There is so much food misinformation and disinformation out there, and it can feel impossible

On Biteback, my goal is to help listeners create a pleasurable relationship with food,

their body, and themselves, which in my opinion is the

fundamental secret to good health. Listen to bite back wherever you get your podcasts.

And I'm definitely the mom friend

you have always wanted. Good morning, everybody, and I'm saying

1:12.9

good morning because it is morning for me, so I don't know when you're listening to this. If it's

1:17.7

afternoon, good afternoon. If it's evening, good evening. If it's the middle of the night and you're

1:23.9

feeding your baby, keep going. You're doing a great job. My hope for you tomorrow is really

strong coffee and a sleeping baby. I'm recording this in my home office and there are people playing

1:36.1

tag outside my window and they keep screaming and yelling and it's making my dogs bark and I'm very

irritated. But anyways, that's just the way it's going to be. If you hear my dogs bark and I'm very irritated. But anyways, that's just the way it's

going to be. If you hear my dogs bark, I'm sorry. A few days ago, I posted on my Instagram stories

asking what you guys wanted me to talk about today. And someone said that they loved the episode

on attachment and they wanted me to talk about something else

psychological that I learned about in school. So because I love defense mechanisms and I'm

2:07.6

trained in coding defense mechanisms using this specific scale, I thought I would talk about

defenses. It's fascinating because every single person uses defense

mechanisms. So it's not like this is only applicable to certain people. We all use them. There are
