The American Alpine Institute's six-day albinism 1 introduction to mountaineering program was designed

to help competent backpackers become competent independent mountaineers.

Over this program's 49 year history, the curriculum has continued to evolve alongside

the evolution of technical mountaineering.

The Albinism 1 program starts with a day of rock climbing and repelling and then moves up on to the flanks of Mount Baker where students will learn the arts of snow climbing snow and ice anchors moderate ice skills, and Glacier Travel and Kromask Rescue.

The program culminates in a descent of a moderate route on Mount Baker.
