Today we'll be telling the story of St. Gregor of Narak, whose feast is celebrated on February

27th.

Gregor was born around the year 945 in a small lakeside village in Armenia, which is

now eastern Turkey.

After the death of his mother, Gregor's father became a bishop.

During his youth, Gregor worked tending his family's cattle as a herdsman.

Then Gregor and his older brother were sent to the monastery of Narak.

In 977 he was ordained a priest and taught theology in the monastery school for the rest

of his life.

He is best known for his mystical work, The Book of Lamentations, which is a collection

of 95 chapters, each a prayer to God.

He is considered to be one of Armenia's finest lyrical poets and was declared a doctor

of the church by Pope Francis in 2015.
