Welcome to Raising Good Humans. I'm Dr. Lisa Pressman, and today we're talking about

divorce, separation, and younger kids. This conversation is with my guest, Claire Learner,

who's the director of Parenting Resources at Zero to Three National Center for Infants,

Toddlers, and Families, and she has her own private practice, the Learner Child Development Center.

We're having this conversation because I've gotten so many questions about how to talk to kids

if you are separating, if you're divorced, if you're co-parenting, what can you do to help your

kids thrive despite these challenging circumstances? And we're focused more on younger children

and school aged, and we'll do another episode for older kids. This was more personal for us because

we both are in this field and also divorced. And so we've experienced this. So we are bringing

the research, but with so much compassion because nobody sets out to have this happen, and sometimes

it does, and sometimes it's the most healthy thing that you can do, but that doesn't mean that

it doesn't make it very difficult to support your kids. And the positive part of this,

the most important thing to know is that all of the downsides to divorce and children have to do

with our adult behavior. So since we can control our own behavior, there's a lot that you can do to
