That night, though, as Ruby June was lying in bed, she suddenly remembered what she’d heard the older kids say. She also remembered Lisa’s worried face. Was it really true that you could go bald if you brushed your hair too much?
Feeling determined, Ruby June got out of bed and tiptoed to the bathroom. She opened the drawer where they kept the big purple comb. Inspecting it closely, Ruby June saw a coily black hair woven around the comb teeth.
