Today is Tuesday. It is September 29th, 2020. Thanks so much for joining me. I want to begin with the report from channel 4. Channel 4 news, which is a UK-based media company, and they did extensive

reporting on Donald Trump's 2016 campaign that targeted African Americans, 3.5 million African Americans to deter their

votes to deter them from voting. The report goes into some very specific details so I'll be playing

audio clips from it so that you can hear it for yourself, see it for yourself,

and I'll also be reading some quotes from the article and then we'll discuss in context of why this is not only problematic

but why being behind the eight ball like this.

We're now four years later we're finally understanding just now,

understanding the nature of what took place and what happened.

The fact that this happened and no one had the foresight to see that this was the possibility of how this data that is gathered by the meet these social media organizations all of them gather this type of data.

But no one had the foresight to see that the data would be used in such a nefarious fashion,

where instead of using this micro targeted data, this very granular data on who you are, where you live, what your phone

number is, who's the last time you voted, who is the last person you voted for,

all the way down to your personality type.

They had this amount of data on 200 million Americans, and the way they used it on those 3.5

million African Americans was to target them based on their personality type

and use the specific type of advertisement that would match their personality type in order

to dissuade them, to discourage them from voting, to get them to self-disenfranchise.

And it's disturbing because, one, it has taken four years for us to get this information

and to fully understand the scale of the operation.
