Alyssa Ravasio is the founder and CEO of Hipcamp, a global online platform that brings the sharing economy to one of the planet's most plentiful resources—land. Built on the belief that getting outside should be simple, Hipcamp partners with private landowners across the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom to create new spaces for recreation, increasing access to the outdoors while providing sustainable revenue to protect nature. To date,

Hipcamp has unlocked access to more than 4 million acres of private land and helped people enjoy more than 7 million nights under the stars.

Alyssa has received industry recognition for her achievement. She has served on the Outdoor Industry Association's Recreation Advisory Council and in 2022 she was recognized by Outside Business Journal as one of the 20 most influential people in the outdoor industry.

Alyssa earned her bachelor's degree in Digital Democracy and Complexity Science from the University of California, Los Angeles. She lives in the wilds of Marin County with her husband and young son, and one of her deepest passions is shaping how the internet impacts our humanity and our planet.

Hey, folks, welcome to the adventure Sports podcast. I'm your host, Mason. Today we are continuing

0:27.2

kind of an unofficial series of interviewing a founder of an outdoor company that I'm a huge

0:33.4

fan of. Over the years, we've had plenty of guests who started companies, and that's the story.

0:39.0

That's what we talk about. Maybe it's because I have this desire myself to start, be a part of a

0:43.9

big change, innovative change in the outdoor industry. I've tried in the past. It's failed.

If you've ever had this experience, this is exactly why she started this.

1:19.9

You know, you go to a state park or a national park and the campsite, you look online

1:23.7

and the campsites are just booked for months in advance.

1:26.6

I did this recently, and I couldn't

1:28.3

believe that every site within 100 miles of me of private or of public land was totally

1:34.2

booked up. And what they did is like, man, there's millions and millions and millions of acres of beautiful

1:40.2

private land. Why don't we convince those landowners to open it up for camping? And that's exactly

1:46.1

what Hip Camp did. And so to date, Hip Camp has unlocked access to more than 4 million acres of private

1:53.1

land to help people enjoy more than 7 million nights of camping. I don't know about you, but camping

1:59.4

changes lives. Camping has changed

2:02.4

my life for the better, and I know there's millions of people out there that don't even realize
