Maybe Jeff sensed Takoda’s confusion because he began to explain: “I’m going to a sleepover at Mark’s friend’s house. They’re older, and I don’t think any of them sleep with stuffed animals anymore…” Jeff gently placed Takoda back on the bed, and spoke even more softly. “I don’t want them to laugh at me.”
Takoda felt a little sad. He had never spent a night without Jeff before. Takoda loved being there when Jeff felt sleepy or needed a hug. Who would help Jeff feel safe at night?
