This week, I am joined by Vanessa Fitzgerald. Vanessa is a health coach, natural foods chef, yoga teacher, and overall wellness wizard. Learning to eat the right foods for her body has changed her life, and she’s passionate about helping her clients achieve this change.
Vanessa can personally attest to the power of proper nutrition to heal. She’s been an advocate of its healing capabilities since the age of 14, when she eliminated her acne by changing her diet. At 19, she was diagnosed with Celiac disease and Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Doctors prescribed several kinds of medication for symptoms like weight gain, depression, lethargy, and acne. But again, she found a solution through nutrition. By learning to manage her sugar intake, she erased her symptoms, making most of her prescriptions unnecessary.
After attending NYU as an undergrad, Vanessa studied yoga at the Bikram Yoga College of India and received her teaching certification. Still, her pursuit of wellness and nutrition remained a pastime. She started a career in real estate, but found herself more interested in what was in homeowners’ refrigerators. Before long, they were asking for her advice on nutrition. It was clear that the passion she’d discovered as a teen was her true calling.
Vanessa enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Upon graduation, she began working as a private health coach in New York City. Her practice is characterized by a focus on the individual; as she says, “it’s not one-size-fits-all.” She works with each client to create a wellness plan designed to enhance every aspect of life. After all, her theory is that everything must be done with moderation—even including moderation itself. (Bio via vfwellness.com)
