Listen in as we revisit the amazing stories of Amie Begg. Adventure sports helped Amie not only to overcome her substance abuse challenges but also led to a new life as a substance abuse counselor and a whitewater enthusiast. However, shortly into her paddling career, during a rapids run, she suffered a hit to her head resulting in a serious brain injury . Amie spent time recovering and learning to read, walk and talk again. After a successful recovery, she conquered those same rapids proving she had what it took to continue her love for kayaking.

Hey, folks, welcome to the adventure sports podcast. I'm your host Mason. You might have noticed my voice is a little shot. I lost it last week. And I was around a lot of people. So it was very hard for me, a professional talk or someone who loves to talk to not be able to talk. So it's back now just in time to record

0:39.1

this intro. In today's episode is a 2018 throwback, back when Kurt was the host and Amy's story

about kayaking the Blue Nile, but it's a lot more than that. We deal with like what she did in her

0:51.0

past, how she got to this point. It was substance abuse and a very serious

some really awful things, but it leads them to be adventurous.

1:33.8

It leads them to live life to the fullest.

1:36.1

And so I can't relate in a lot of ways to some of these stories, but I know that we've had

1:42.4

so many examples on the show of people taking

1:45.0

the worst lemons possible and making beautiful lives and wonderful lemonade with it.

1:50.6

So I encourage everybody that's out there that might be going through something.

1:54.5

There are brighter days ahead.

1:56.1

So let's dive into this amazing story with Amy Begg.

2:00.3

In one callout before we jump in is the last episode with Phil Decker, I mentioned it was a prostate

2:05.6

exam that caused him to be aware of his colon cancer, but it was a colonoscopy.

2:11.5

So I made that mistake in the intro, but we wrap that or we make that correction in the episode.

2:16.6
