Summary

In 2018 Dorien Cramer cycled solo from Singapore back to her home in the Netherlands. She had no plan of where to go and how long she would be on the road. Only that she wanted to explore and see how and where other people live.

With a tent and a stove in her panniers, she had everything she needed to go wherever she wanted. In China she reached the highest point of her trip on 4,807 meters altitude. There were also lows. In Malaysia she witnessed the logging of rainforest and in Kazakhstan she ate horse brain at a wedding reception.

Sometimes her experiences were so difficult she thought of giving up and taking a train back home. However, she managed to continue and after 15 months and 20,477km, she reached the doorstep of her parents house on Christmas Eve.

Hey, folks, welcome to the adventure sports podcast. I'm your host, Mason. Today we are talking to Dorian Kramer about her experience of biking home

0:25.3

from Singapore, and home is the Netherlands. And that sounds like a huge and crazy adventure,

0:31.2

and it is, but she had some equally amazing adventures that kind of led to this experience.

0:39.4

And what I love about Dorian's story is that she's a lot like me in the sense that she's a type B personality. Not sure if that

0:45.5

kind of type A, type B personality thing is worldwide. So if you're listening in other parts of

0:50.2

the world, you know, type A people have all their planning together. They plan things like

0:54.9

years in advance. Everything's dialed in. However, when something goes off, you know, plan or goes

1:00.7

off course, type A people can really struggle. I am married to a type A person. I am 100% type B in the

1:09.7

fact that I love things to be free flowing and creative and they're not to be a set plan and to see where things lead. And what I love is Dorian's story is a lot like that. And a lot of times we hear from adventures that have everything dialed in or they know there's things that are going to happen that they can't control, but they know where they need to be each day. They stick to that plan. And I love that Dorian's had

1:32.4

just so much creative openness to it and so much ability to add things in. And you're going to hear

1:37.6

some of the cool and crazy ideas that came out of it and some of the wild opportunities that

1:43.7

just kind of showed themselves along

1:45.9

the way. So this was an awesome story. I'm very excited to be able to bring it to you. We recorded

1:51.0

this a while ago. And by the way, be listening because we are going to be dropping in our feed

1:57.6

2:03.0
