Summary
This episode isn’t about any particular educational method—it’s about how we parents go about deciding what’s best for our individual kiddos and our collectives families.
Stephanie homeschools her kids, and we send our kids to a three-day hybrid school—and we’ve also done almost every type of school under the sun. They all have their plusses and minuses, and we’re grateful for them all! Let’s talk about how we decide what’s best for a particular season of life.
Learning loves, learning challenges, limits, freedoms, and particular preferences… deciding how to best help your kids learn is more art than science. The beauty of that is there’s no one perfect way to do this—but there’s a thousand good ways.

| 0:00.0 | It's the simple show. You've got episode 91. Hi, I'm Tishawkson writer. And I'm Stephanie Langford. |
| 0:09.9 | And on The Simple Show, we talk about saying no and yes to the right things. And in this episode, we're |
| 0:15.0 | talking about kids' education and how we make choices about what's best for our kids and for our |
| 0:20.4 | family as a whole. |
| 0:21.4 | Before we get into that, I wanted to make a quick announcement. We are now with the Wondery Network, |
| 0:26.0 | which is a family of podcasts that are emphasizing storytelling and just really good chats about good stuff. |
| 0:32.3 | And they've asked our listeners if they would help them out by taking a survey. We would love |
| 0:37.0 | to show them what great listeners you are. So if you could help them out by taking a survey. We would love to show them what |
| 0:39.0 | great listeners you are. So if you could help us out, go to wendery.com slash survey and just |
| 0:44.7 | answer a few questions. It takes about two minutes and that's Wondry, W-O-N-D-E-R-Y. It's kind of a weird |
| 0:51.1 | word.com slash survey. So head on over there and show them what great listeners you are. |
| 0:59.0 | Okay, Steph, so start us off. |
| 1:01.5 | What do you say no to when it comes to this crazy, huge, huge topic of our kids' education? |
| 1:07.1 | Yeah, this is such a fun topic for me. |
| 1:09.8 | I should probably like start off and kind of preface it by saying that we are homeschoolers and we have been for a long time. So education is definitely something I think about a lot. But I think it's also great for us to say up front that this isn't about, this isn't a podcast about homeschoolchooling but rather it's about how we really pursue |
| 1:30.5 | the best for our kids for their education and that looks like all sorts of things um not just school |
| 1:36.4 | not just homeschool but it's about family culture and a lot of other things do you agree tish |
| 1:41.0 | totally and i'm so glad you said this i wanted to i wanted to make sure this was said up front that I don't want anyone to listen and say like, oh, no, I'm going to feel guilty about not homeschooling. Not at all. And in fact, in fact, as we get talking, you will see that we are not the best at this. So it's not us saying, let us tell you how we figured this out. It is definitely not just about homeschooling. It's about this huge, big topic of kids' education because, I don't know, I'm sure you agree, Stephanie, that ultimately what it comes down to is we, the parents, are in charge of our kids' education, whether that looks like sending them to school or teaching them from home. So the power still lays with the parents no matter what is |
| 2:18.5 | ultimately chosen, right? Yeah, that's exactly it. It's not about a particular style of education |
| 2:23.8 | that you've chosen, but it's about the fact that as parents, we know our kids best. We love them |
| 2:28.8 | more than anybody else. And so we really want to take charge of what their education looks like |
| 2:33.8 | and make sure that it's in line with our family's values and priorities and all of those good things. |
