Hey everyone, today's guest is Brian Fallon, lead vocalist and guitarist for the

New Brunswick New Jersey punk rock band, The Gaslight Anthem. Brian and I

take a deep dive into the inspiration, writing, and recording of the song

45, taken from their fourth full-length album, 2012's, handwritten. From the moment he wrote the song,

he felt it was special, as did producer Brendan O'Brien.

Brian feels that a lot of songwriters from New Jersey

lyrically come from the same place.

He went on to explain that he thinks it's because New Jersey lives in the shadow of a number of bigger cities and that they'll always be underdogs with something to prove.

And as all my favorite episodes do, things got a bit random and weird.

We talked about a rather obscure punk band

that both Brian and I have ties with.

We discussed New Jersey native Skid Row,

and Brian referenced the song Material Girl

by Madonna.

Interestingly enough, they all somehow tied back into the episode.
