Summary
Adventure sports funding: Insights from Curt Linville on how adventurers pay for epic journeys – lessons from his own experiences and hundreds of podcast guests, plus his commitment to asking the funding question more often in future episodes.
The stories we hear on Adventure Sports Podcast are incredible, but often we are left with a lingering question of “how did they pay for this amazing adventure?”
What I’ve learned through the years from my own adventures and from our hundreds of guests has led me to record this episode and commit to asking that exact question to more guests in the future.
If you have great tips and ideas on how to make adventures more financially feasible that weren’t mentioned in this episode, let us know at info@adventuresportspodcast.com!

| 0:00.0 | Hey, folks, welcome to the adventure sports podcast. I'm your host, Mason. Today's episode is a little different. If you saw the title, which I'm sure you did if you're listening to it, it was how to pay for your adventures. And basically what I want to do, we did a survey a couple weeks ago or months ago, and one of the |
| 0:38.9 | main questions that got brought up in that survey, or one of the things y'all wanted to know, |
| 0:43.9 | was a little bit more about how people pay for these trips. We hear about so many amazing |
| 0:50.4 | adventures all around the world. One of the questions I historically haven't asked |
| 0:56.7 | consistently is how they pay for them or how is their life set up to make these financially |
| 1:01.7 | possible or the time possible to do this. And how do they take off the time and not lose the money? |
| 1:08.4 | Like how does that all work? And it's different for |
| 1:10.8 | everybody. And there are plenty of them, plenty of guess over the years that I've asked. And if you've |
| 1:16.0 | noticed, I've started asking that more based on the survey. One, because I think it's really |
| 1:21.5 | helpful. Two, I think it breaks down some misconceptions about how a lot of these trips get paid for. |
| 1:30.9 | And three, as someone that works in marketing and has been on the side of fundraising for |
| 1:36.5 | adventures and also being pitched a lot for adventures, a lot of people ask me with my day job |
| 1:42.2 | at Athletic Brewing about, hey, can y'all help out in any way? |
| 1:46.0 | So I kind of wanted to put together just some basic tips and things I've learned over the years. |
| 1:51.9 | And I tried to write out everything I was thinking. |
| 1:54.3 | And there might be some stuff that pops up. |
| 1:56.1 | I guarantee what's going to happen is I'm going to click end on recording this and then like 15 |
| 2:03.2 | things flood my brain with more more ways to save for adventure so but I'm going to go with |
| 2:09.9 | at least start with what I have and there we asked folks for questions listeners for |
| 2:14.5 | questions so we do have some questions about it and we're going to listen to those and answer those at the end. So if you asked a question, be listening for the end. By the way, I don't do a ton of monologues, so I really don't know how this is going to go. I don't know how clunky it's going to sound or if it's going to be smooth, but I'm going to try to keep a straight line of thought through all this and not jump around like I would if I was |
| 2:36.8 | talking to you in person. |
| 2:39.0 | So, you know, I, for 400 episodes, 500 episodes, I have bounced off a guest. |
