There are ways demographics in politics is destiny and has had a huge impact on our

politics and particularly presidential elections.

There is a greater student of that than Ron Brownstein, the longtime veteran political

writers now, the director of editorial content for Atlantic media.

But one of the really incisive commentators on American politics, he came by the Institute

of Politics the other day to talk about this election.

And while he was here, we sat down and talked about not just that, but his long career

in political journalism.

Ron Brownstein, you're an interesting character because you are sort of half journalist, half

scholar and you can travel in circles that other journalists don't necessarily travel.

But you didn't start, you come from a family that's not a family of scholars.

But a working class family, tell me about your...

Yeah, I grew up in Basite Queens.

My dad was an electrician.

My mom was mostly home and then was a receptionist for a doctor.

He got the job when someone in my sixth grade swung a can at my head and cut my ear

in half and while I was getting my ear sewn up, my mother got hired.

I had a doctor.

I hope she's nice.
